How to Choose Wedding Jewellery You Will Wear Again
Choose for the day, but also for the years afterwards.

Wedding jewellery is often the most meaningful purchase of the whole celebration. It is also the one most likely to be worn once and kept in a locker. A little planning can make it a collection you reach for again and again.
Start with the outfit
Plan the jewellery around the clothes, not the other way round. Look at the neckline, the colours and the amount of embroidery. A richly worked outfit usually suits one statement piece and quieter supporting ones. A simpler outfit can carry bolder jewellery.
Choose pieces that work twice
Look for sets that separate, so the earrings can be worn alone and the necklace with other outfits. Consider necklaces that can be worn short or long, and designs that suit both traditional and modern clothes. Reusing family pieces, or reworking them into new designs, can add meaning and save money.

Quality and paperwork
In India, look for the hallmark on gold jewellery, which shows its purity. For diamonds and other gemstones, ask for a certificate from a recognised laboratory, and for the details of the stone. Ask for an itemised bill that lists the weight, the purity and the making charges, and find out about the exchange and buy-back terms before you pay.
Comfort matters
You will wear it for many hours. Try each piece on, and think about weight, clasps and how earrings feel after an evening. Heavy pieces look wonderful in photographs and can be tiring in person.
Care and storage
Keep each piece separately in a soft pouch to avoid scratches. Remove jewellery before swimming, cleaning or applying perfume, and wipe it gently with a soft cloth. For high-value pieces, ask about insurance and secure storage.
Our advice
Set a budget before you shop. Buy from a seller you trust, keep every document, and choose a few pieces that you will love beyond the wedding.
